If you’re on LinkedIn, it’s likely you’ve had a recruiter in your inbox reach out to you about a position they think you would be a good fit for. I had experienced this on several occasions myself before getting contacted by Q Consulting, and in all honesty, I really wasn’t a fan of recruiters before this happened.
My Initial Thoughts on Recruiters and The Recruitment Process
There was something about recruiting that just felt shoddy and transactional to me — like all that recruiters wanted was for me to take the job so that they could get their commission and carry on to the next person. Not only would their message sound like a robot crafted them, but their follow-up was even worse. The last thing that I (or anyone else) needs is to take the time to learn about a job, which we know is also helping the recruiter, only to be treated like a sale rather than a human being. No, thank you!
…Until I Met the Q Crew.
Then came the day that I received a message from a Senior Recruiter, Nate Lee, from Q Consulting. I rolled my eyes at first thinking this was just another one of those recruiters, but I was in a position where I really wanted to find a new job but wasn’t having much luck on my own. So I opened the message.
It was clear right away that Nate took the time to really look over my profile and resume to see if this role he had for me would be a good fit. It was everything I had done in my previous job and everything I wanted to learn in a new job. With some hesitations, I responded showing my interest in the role. Within minutes, Nate had me on the phone to discuss the opportunity more in-depth. When I answered the phone, it was more like getting a call from a friend than a recruiter. We talked about my background, where I’m from, and laughed about similarities. By the end of the call, Nate made it clear that there was no obligation if it wasn’t something I wanted to move forward with, yet put all the steps in place for me when I decided I did want to.
Benefits of Partnering With a Q Consulting Recruiter
Now, 4 months later, I have been working with Q Consulting as the Marketing/Operations Specialist and could not be happier with my decision to partner with a Q recruiter. After experiencing the Q Consulting recruitment process for myself, I wanted to share my experience with anyone who is considering becoming a consultant with Q and let you in on the real-deal benefits of working with one of our thoughtful recruiters.
They stick to their values.
At Q Consulting, our values are Excellence, Respect, Integrity, and Collaboration. After going through the interview process, it was clear that every single person at the company fully embodied these values. This was very important for me when deciding where I wanted to work, and when I learned that Q was all about building quality relationships and putting the people who work with them first, I knew that this was a place I wanted to represent and stand behind.
They take the time to get to know you.
Like I mentioned above, upon my first phone call, I knew right away that I was in good hands with Q. I was asked questions about my background (which turned into great conversation as commonalities arose), what I’m looking for in a job, how serious I was about finding a new role, and was filled in about the entire interview process, including what I could expect and when I could expect to hear back from them. Their process was on-point and I really appreciated that they took the time to really get to know who I was as a person to make sure that not only I would be a good fit for their team, but that their team was a fit for me.
They make sure the role is something that works for you — not for them.
Another belief I had about all recruiters was that they were just trying to place me at any role if I had a simple keyword or two on my resume that aligned with the job description. I even had a recruiter from another company reach out to me with an opening for a Graphic Design position when my background is primarily focused in Content Marketing and SEO (close… but not close).
With Q, I was sent a job description that perfectly aligned with my previous experience, and as for the points that I didn’t have experience in, is what I wanted to learn more about and gain experience doing. This is because our recruiters have a great understanding of the different jobs they are working with and know what to look out for when looking at different LinkedIn profiles and resumes. And if they come to find that you might not be a good fit for the role after getting to know you further, they don’t just string you along — they will either find something else that suits you better, or stay in contact with you so you can be the first to know if a new job opens that you could be a good fit for.
One of the biggest things I’ve learned since working with Q is that our consultants’ and clients’ success is our success. If our consultants aren’t happy, then they will likely find another job elsewhere — so they will never place you somewhere they don’t think would be a good fit for you.
They help you throughout the entire interview process.
This is another big one. Not only did Nate help me navigate the interview process, but I see all of our recruiters do this for our potential consultants every day. From resume help to interview prep and coordination, consistent communication, and insightful feedback post-interview, our recruiters are always available for help and will do whatever they can to make the process as painless as possible.
They always put their consultants first.
By building solid relationships with their consultants, Q recruiters are able to get an in-depth understanding about their consultant’s wants, needs, and goals. By having this invaluable information, they are able to know what job and what company they will fit the best with. The last thing that our recruiters want is to place someone at a job that they end up not liking, leaving them to want to look elsewhere. By working closely with our clients, we are able to gain incredible insights as to who exactly they are looking for to fill a role and will never place a consultant somewhere if we don’t truly feel that it is the best option for them.
They are truly some of the most genuine people I know.
From hearing Christina talk about how she will have phone calls on her way to work just to chat with one of her consultants who became a good friend of hers, to Nate meeting another for coffee to see how they are liking their new role, and Erin helping his friends find good roles and becoming Q Consultants — it just goes to show that the secret sauce to Q’s success is just being genuine people who care about the people they work with.
Humbly bragging here, but I truly do have the best coworkers I could ask for. From our Recruiters to our Account Managers, Office Manager, and leadership, the Q Crew is a tight-knit group of people who will always go the extra mile for the people who choose to partner with them. If you get a message from a Q Consulting recruiter or are considering becoming a consultant, take it from someone who has seen first-hand that you are in good hands with the Q Crew.
